Race in America 2019

Sharing core norms and values
Apr 15, 2019 | Pew Research Center

A nationally representative survey by Pew Research Center’s American Trends Panel has recorded a majority of negative views of the country’s racial progress. About six-in-ten Americans say race relations in the U.S. are bad, and of those, few see them improving. 76 percent of blacks, 75 percent of Asians and 58 percent of Hispanics have experienced discrimination or been treated unfairly because of their race or ethnicity, while some two-thirds of whites have not experienced this. About eight-in-ten blacks say the U.S. has not gone far enough in giving black people equal rights, and fully half say that it is unlikely that it will eventually achieve racial equality.
