The Role of International Climate Policy in Socioeconomic Change
There are many disruptive forces at play in climate action, ranging from technology shifts, economic transformations, political upheaval and societal reconfiguration. The
Stanley Foundation gathered civil society and policy experts from social justice campaigns and the international climate community to consider these issues at the
59th annual Strategy for Peace Conference. This dialogue brief suggests that the climate community has only a short period to grapple with the large-scale socioeconomic change required to put the planet on a 1.5C pathway. It examines how the community can address disruptive issues through international policy, focusing on what is needed from multilateral institutions in economic governance, social justice, sustainable consumption and production, and managed energy transitions. It provides recommendations for international policymakers to 2020 and beyond.
