World Population Prospects

Improving global governance
Jun 22, 2019 | UNDP

The population estimates and projections presented in this report by the UNDP describe two of the four demographic megatrends - population growth and ageing - and key trends in human fertility, mortality, and net international migration that are integral to sustainable development. The report: confirms that the world’s population continues to grow, albeit at a slowing rate; identifies challenges related to high fertility in some countries and regions; confirms the global increase and the narrowing gap in longevity between rich and poor countries, and points to significant disparities in survival across countries and regions. It shows that international migration has become an important determinant of population variation in some parts of the world.
