How Women Are Using Technology to Advance Gender Equality and Peace

From Afghanistan to Sudan, women in conflict areas are increasingly turning to technology to build peace and reduce gender inequality. Just as smart phones and mobile internet facilitate key aspects of daily life, they also amplify women’s voices that were confined to the home or marketplace. In this article for the U.S. Institute for Peace, Danielle Robertson and Mena Ayazi show the promise that this holds and call on the international community to support it by widening access and lowering social barriers to technology, and providing training that boosts proficiency.
