Europe’s Collaborative Economy - Charting a constructive Path forward
Platforms, both European and non-European, face a labyrinth of local, often contradictory, rules, and there are significant differences between local and European rules. In their report for the
Center for European Policy Studies, William Echikson and Jesse Goldberg suggest that without reform, Europe risks falling behind in this important arena of economic activity. Drawing on the work of a Task Force that heard, over a year, from corporate, union, employer and city representatives, and leading academics, they discuss the responsibilities of new platforms, how workers should be classified, and how insurers and others can provide services in the context of new economic activity. Above all, what Europe-wide rules are required for the single market to work for the collaborative economy?
