Rethinking the Global Health System
Deliberations on global health have focused on the new health targets set out in the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but there is a need for stronger leadership. In their paper for
Chatham House, Marco Schäferhoff, Elina Suzuki, Steven Hoffman and Philip Angelides identify priority areas for reform in the global health architecture, and emerging challenges after 2015. One of their proposals involves creating a new organisation,
UN-HEALTH. Based on a common results framework, this would draw together all UN agencies with health-related mandates. Alternatively, a
UN Health Commission could be set up to improve coordination without the radical changes to the architecture required for a
