Here's how we solve the Global Crisis of Tribalism and Democratic Decay

Sharing core norms and values
Jan 14, 2019 | World Economic Forum, Tim Dixon

There is a deepening distrust among people caused by tribalism and intolerance of those with different backgrounds. This makes pluralist societies less resilient, more vulnerable to social stresses, and less able to navigate 21st-century crises including political deadlock, rapid demographic change, economic slumps, climate events, technological change and threats to national security. In this article, prepared for the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting, Tim Dixon calls for new coalitions to provide leadership and a stronger ecosystem of initiatives to alert societies to deepening divisions, rebuild social capital, and renew public confidence that free and democratic societies are best placed to advance the common good.
