An Innovation Agenda for UN 75 - The Albright-Gambari Commission Report and the Road to 2020

Improving global governance
Aug 16, 2019 | Stimson Center

Global action by governments, international organistions, and civil society - underpinned by a new ethic - is the moral and practical imperative of the present era. The roots of discontent with global governance lie in the lack of justice and personal security esperiences by many in a globalized world. The crisis undermines mechanisms intended to build resilience, reduce corruption, combat extremism, and ensure regional stability. In this publication by the Stimson Center, Richard Ponzio, Joris Larik et al offer twenty observations, selected from the Albright-Gambari Commission proposals, on the global political climate and discuss why some past UN anniversaries advanced significant changes while others did not. The report concludes by presenting a roadmap to maximise the utility of the UN 75 Leader’s Summit in 2020, in strengthening and restructuring global institutions to meet present needs.
