Nov 27, 2019 | Poverty Reduction, Equity and Growth Network), Pooja Balasubramanian, Marcela Ibanez, Sarah Khan, Soham Sahoo

Empirical evidence supports the view that female economic empowerment is key to ending poverty and boosting economic prosperity. But social norms often limit the mobility of women and prevent achievement of these effects. In this Policy Brief for the Poverty Reduction, Equity and Growth Network (PEGNet), Pooja Balasubramanian, Marcela Ibanez, Sarah Khan, Soham Sahoo discuss the meaning of female economic empowerment and the pathways through which it can promote development. They review the impact of different interventions on poverty and human development, the obstacles that these initiatives face, and their implications for policy.
