The Role of Oil and Gas Companies in the Energy Transition

Delivering sustainable economic growth
Jan 18, 2020 | Atlantic Council, Robert Johnston, Reed Blakemore, Randolph Bell

Many oil and gas companies have recognized the need to decarbonise the energy system to reduce the impacts of climate change. Initial industry efforts to play a role in the energy transition show sincerity and promise, but Robert Johnston, Reed Blakemore, and Randolph Bell suggest in ths report for the Atlantic Council that in light of the need for more oil and gas production, there is a need for a comprehensive framework to enable the industry to promote a low-carbon future while providing energy to meet the needs of development and economic growth goals.  They explore what role the oil and gas industry can play in advancing an energy-rich, prosperous, low-carbon future.
