Armed conflicts are often complex due to fragmented parties and incoherent international responses. In this report – arising from collaboration between the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, the Center for Security Studies ETH Zurich, Folke Bernadotte Academy and Swisspeace - Julia Federer, Philipp Lustenberger et al offer insights into and analyses of peace processes at multiple societal levels, or “tracks”, from high-level diplomatic negotiations to community-based peacebuilding. The authors share insights from a retreat with practitioners involved in dialogue, negotiation or mediation in Colombia, Myanmar, Syria, Ukraine and Zimbabwe, and offer ideas for future research and informed practice.
