Sustainable Development Report 2020 - The Sustainable Development Goals and Covid-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly set back the world’s ambition to achieve the SDGs, in particular in poor countries and population groups. In addition to greater investments, the crisis shows that better measures and reporting are needed to track prevention programmes, healthcare system preparedness, and resilience to pandemics. This report, prepared by the
Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the
Bertelsmann Stiftung suggests that the only positive effect of the crisis is the reduction in environmental impacts due to lower economic activity. A key objective should therefore be to restore economic activity without restoring prior environmental degradation. The report includes the SDG Index and Dashboards for all UN member states, and frames the implementation of the SDGs in terms of six broad transformations.
