The Global God Divide

Sharing core norms and values
Sep 15, 2020 | Pew Research Center,

This research study by the Pew Research Center questioned 38,426 people in 34 countries across six continents on the connection between belief in God and morality; and how important God and prayer are in people’s lives. A median of 45 percent say it is necessary to believe in God to be moral and have good values. Despite variances in religious observance, a median of 62 percent across the countries surveyed say that religion plays an important role in their lives, 61percent agree that God plays an important role and 53 percent say the same about prayer. But there are large regional variations, as well those by economic development, education and age. The European continent has become increasingly secular, though with notable differences between citizens of countries in the East and the West .
