Temperatures and Tensions Rise – Security and Climate Risk in the Arctic

Addressing vulnerability and promoting security
Jun 22, 2021 | ArcGIS Enterprise, Kate Guy, Carl Churchill et al

Many of the new climate phenomena will have direct, harmful impacts on security in the Artic region, particularly the rising frequency of weather extremes and thawing permafrost. As a warming Arctic becomes more navigable and commercial interests seek to take advantage of historically inaccessible routes and resources, the security dilemma in the region intensifies – commercially and militarily. With the interactive story-map by ArcGIS Enterprise, Kate Guy, Carl Churchill et all  display the impacts of climate change in the Artic zone and identify new opportunities to the region that actors will seek to exploit through increasing access, navigability, and activity.
