World Inequality Report 2022
Globally, the richest ten percent of the population is responsible for more than half of all CO2 emissions. Environmental policies like carbon taxes hit the poor the hardest, but this group is rarely if ever compensated for such measures, suggests this report by the
World Inequality Lab. Lucas Chancel, Thomas Piketty, Emmanuel Saez, and Gabriel Zucman provide the latest estimates, based on the aggregation of national data from a multitude of sources, of income and wealth inequality at the national, regional, and global level. They present long-run time-series data for these indicators, allowing the consideration of recent patterns in a broader historical context, expand on different dimensions of inequality in revealing new ways, and review policy options for redistributing wealth and investing in the future to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
