The New Delhi G20 Summit: Reflections from India
At the beginning of its G20 Presidentialterm in December 2022, India declared six priorities: Increasing the effectiveparticipation of developing countries of the Global South in G20; prioritizinginclusive growth to revive the implementation of
Agenda 2030;identifying additional areas for climate action; a focus on the use of technologyto accelerate development through a human-centric approach; making women’sempowerment more effective; and reforming multilateralism. Asoke Mukerjiemphasises in his article for the
Vivekananda International Foundationthat under Prime Minster Narendra Modi the G20 sought to pursue developmentmodels that implemented sustainable, inclusive and just transitions. Thestrategy for achieving this outcome rested on two processes: Broadening anddeepening participation, including that of civil society and youth, and insertingnew energy in implementing issues on the G20’s agenda.
