As the global economy is experiencinguncertainty, African countries need to harness the power of science,technology, and innovation to enable economic and social recovery andstructural transformation in the medium and long terms This will requirerevamping the nexus between educational policies, R&D, innovation, andeconomic policies, and defining modern industrial policies that will servedevelopment through clear roadmaps and transparent objectives. As Africaremains the continent most threatened by climate change and chronic foodinsecurity, science and technological innovation are vital focal areas forsustainable economic growth. The challenges are immense. If Africa wants to bemore than a consumer of technology and less dependent on the great powers, itmust take the steps needed to become an actor in technological competition.
