Perspectives of Traditional Religions on Positive AI Futures
Most of the world - approximately 84 percent of the population - believes in or subscribes to what might be called a traditional religion. Despite this, the perspectives of world religions on AI are largely absent from strategic AI discussions. An initiative by the
Future of Life Institute aims to support religious groups in voicing their faith-specific concerns and hopes for a world with AI, and to work with them to resist the harms and realise the benefits. This will involve convening and giving platforms to representatives to discuss these issues and their potential solutions. The initiative begins with guest posts that envision positive futures from specific religious perspectives. The first contributors are a leading Hindu figure, Chinmay Pandya, on the risks and opportunities of AI and Brian Patrick Green on a positive Catholic vision for a future with AI.
