FOCAC 2024: A Revival of China–Africa Relations

Delivering sustainable economic growth
Oct 02, 2024 | ODI

The Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has been a cornerstone of China’s diplomacy with Africa for over two decades. In early September, over 50 African heads of state travelled to Beijing for FOCAC – the largest ever number. Chinese President Xi Jinping announced a substantial financial commitment to support various initiatives across the continent and outlined key areas of future cooperation. The Forum’s outcomes, reaffirmed China's position as one of Africa's most important development partners and cemented the relationship as a strategic partnership, in contrast to the traditional North-South dynamics seen with other major powers. In this blog, the ODI’s China experts Linda Calabrese and Yunnan Chen share their key takeaways from this year’s forum.  https://odi.org
