Holding Ground in Preventing Violent Extremism

Addressing vulnerability and promoting security
Aug 21, 2025 | Global Public Policy Institute

Preventing violent extremism requires an understanding of what works, under which conditions, to stop radicalization and violence. Evaluation - the systematic assessment of activities and interventions - is crucial for understanding and to improve prevention in practice, suggest Sofie Stoffel, Sarah Bressan, and Lea Marlene Korb in their report for the Global Public Policy Institute. They analyse current trends in violent extremism as well as practices, innovations and challenges in evaluating activities to prevent and counter violent extremism, across 12 countries: Australia, Canada, Czechia, Côte d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Kenya, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Tunisia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Based on the best practices, trends and challenges identified in this study, the authors develop recommendations to improve evaluation and practice in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (P/CVE).  https://gppi.net
